Preparation
Excessive use of water is not recommended for cleaning of wood doors and window sashes. The best method to prepare the surface for coating is to sand the surface to remove any “mill glaze” and/or dirt from the surface of the wood. Sharp edges should be relieved and rounded. Sand with 60 to 80 grit sandpaper keeping in mind that the goal is to remove dirt and mill glazing. Excessive sanding could further polish the surface, just the opposite effect that you are trying to achieve. Rounding the edges will allow finish to dry with an even protective layer thickness. Remove any sanding dust by vacuuming.
If a coating or finish needs to be removed with a chemical stripper, use an organic wax free stripping agent that does not contain water. Following manufacturer’s recommendations for use of this type of stripping agent.
Windows:
We do not recommend coating NatureColor® Base Coat and Recoater or NatureOne® over a painted primed surface.
Wood Garage Doors:
It is important to coat all edges of the garage door with the first (initial) coat. A critical edge is the bottom edge of the door. If covered with a gasket, remove the gasket and coat the bottom edge and reinstall the gasket.
Tip: If installing a new wood door, coat the door prior to installing if possible.

*Note: Low temperatures or high humidity may extend dry times. Best results are achieved if you allow 3-4 hours between coats.
To prevent blocking allow NatureOne coating to cure in the sunlight, a minimum of 7 days, prior to use and/or installation. Allow NatureColor to cure 72 hours.
Product Check
Prior to application, a test area should be done using product purchased for the project. Test will confirm the desired color has been achieved, dry time is within normal dry times and product compatibility is evident.
Batch Check
For color consistency always use the same batch number for the job. If different batch numbers exist, mix all batches together to assure color consistency.
Tools
NatureColor® Base Coat & Recoater perform best when applied with a longhaired natural bristle brush. NatureOne® performs best when applied with a nylon-polyester brush.
Clean Up
NatureColor® Clean Up:
Clean up spills and spatters immediately with mineral spirits. Clean tools immediately after use with mineral spirits.
NatureOne® Clean Up:
Wipe up spills and spatters immediately with damp rag. Equipment and tools should be cleaned with soap and water.
Dispose of empty can or unused finish in accordance with state and federal regulations.
For Best Performance
– Keep material from freezing
– Do not thin or add colorants
– Apply liberal coats
– Apply in direction of the grain
– Maintain a wet edge
– Saturate all end grains
– Apply when surface and air temperatures are between 50 ̊F and 85 ̊F
– Avoid application of product when temperatures are expected to drop below 50 ̊F within 4 hours
– Avoid application when dew or moisture is present
– Avoid applying finish in direct sunlight or when surface is hot to the touch. If weather conditions become too hot during application and product is drying too quickly, STOP and wait for cooler application conditions.
Maintenance Procedures
The longevity of the coating depends on many factors that cause abrasive wear and exposure to ultraviolet light. Add a refresher coat when required.
Excessive use of water is not recommended for doors and window sashes when preparing the surface for a maintenance coat.
Before recoating the surface it must be clean and free from surface oils and grease. Mix 2 oz of TSP, one quart of liquid bleach added to three quarts of warm water. Wipe the surface with this solution. Rinse with a clean damp cloth or sponge to remove remaining cleaning solution and residue from the surface. Let dry.
Then lightly sand the surface with 150 to 220 grit sandpaper. Remove sanding dust by vacuum or moistened rag.
Apply the maintenance coat of Recoater for alkyd based formulation and NatureOne® for waterborne formulation.
If bare wood is exposed after sanding, rebuild the coats by feathering in 1st and 2nd coat of Base Coat and then apply the overall maintenance coat of Recoater for alkyd base formulation. If using NatureOne®, feather in 1st and 2nd coats and then apply an overall maintenance coat. Allow appropriate drying times between coats.
